Become Marie Antoinette Or King Louis XVI For A Night, But Don't Lose Your Head!!!
There are both Marie Antoinette, and King Louis costumes here, and some accessories and ideas on how to 'bling up' and add your own accents to a bought French Revolution costume, as well as some French revolution style inspiration.
Marie Antoinette
Marie Antoinette became of Queen of France in May 1774 when her husband Lous XVI came to the throne, all was well at first the French public loved her, they found her beautiful and charismatic and used to watch her as one would watch a celebrity now days. Unfortunately for Marie Antoinette the love soon turned to hate; she was frivolous and wasteful, while people starved she partied and displayed her wealth, there were rumours that she was promiscuous, and then there was the fact that she was Austrian, which made people dislike her even more - Austria at the time was one of Frances' enemies.
On the 10th of August 1792 the monarchy was abolished, Marie Antoinette and the French royal family were imprisoned in the Temple Prison in Paris, then on the 21st January 1793, King Louis XVI was executed, Marie Antoinette followed on 16 October 1793 when she was tried, convicted of treason, and executed by guillotine.

What Will One Wear To The Ball?
Four of my favorite costumes, if I had to pick one of these it would be the first one, this one has a longer skirt at the back and is a little more practical.
Annoyingly I always seem to find myself climbing over fences on Halloween! - People here think it's funny to lock bar doors when you are outside smoking, a few times now I have had to scale walls and fences to escape from the garden areas, and get back into the bar! I bet Marie Antoinette did not have to put up with any of that type of nonsense!
The model for this costume kinda looks like she is deciding whether to kill someone or not. Maybe she was also locked out of a bar? I do like the costume though, love the colors and length of this one.

French Revolution Style Undergarments
I have been advised by a commenter that to be historically accurate the dresses do not need a skirt hoop, but a pannier or pocket hoops underneath.
Check the manufacturers description on the longer dresses, some of them may need a skirt hoop due to the way they are designed, (lets face it most of these dresses are the designers own interpretation of the style and not historic dresses so they may recommend a skirt hoop for their dress. If they do get one of those.)
Otherwise If you want to get a bit of body into your dress, the way to go is with a pannier. I will be on the look out for more of these to add to this section.

Bling Up A French Revolution Outfit With Rhinestones
there are loads of things you can do to make your costume unique, one of my favorite things to do is stick on rhinestones, these can be stuck around embellishments that are already on it (such as bows)or you could stick them in lines down seams, on the bodice, and anywhere you feel needs some extra bling!
There are a few ways that you can apply your rhinestones, the easiest and cleanest way is to invest in one of the hot fix rhinestone kits, (there are some good ones below) another way is to use glue and simply stick them on by hand, this can be tricky but if you have a steady hand and use the right glue (gem tac is great, you can find it below too.)
King Louis XVI
Louis XVI was the husband of Marie Antoinette, and king of France from 1774 to 1791, he was the only french king ever to have been executed!
King Louis was well known for his love of food and other frivolities, it is said that he was served a massive fifty meat dishes every evening for dinner!!
On August the 10th 1792 king Louis XVI was captured, and the monarchy dissolved, he was executed on January 21st 1793, nine months before his wife.
Some French Revolution Inspiration
This is a video from a TV series that I love called the Supersizers eat, every week the presenters dress in fashions from the period that they are covering, eat the same meals, and try to live the life of those times. The show is full of historical information but I love it mostly for its humour!
This episode features the French revolution, starting with the aristocracy and ending with the peasants.
